If you find yourself with a spare 16 minutes and $6.99, we recommend Gunday. This movie is an example of how to weave storytelling and violence together in a manner that’s fresh and exciting: for all the blood spilled in the wake of this revenge tale, it never seems either overdone or uninteresting. The quick-fire action scenes are enhanced by well-developed characters and dialogue that is colorfully funny without ever coming across as heavy-handed or forced. It’s silly at times, but it never veers into self-parody; if anything, the tongue-in-cheek dialogue helps to balance out what might otherwise be unbearable tension. Certainly, the most successful cinematic experiences are those that balance entertainment with an attempt to communicate themes that are significant to people today. As far as the latter criterion is concerned, Gunday does not exactly measure up. We can admire it for its audacity in taking on corruption in Bangladesh, or for its insistent argument for peace between Pakistan and India, but neither of these issues rises to the level of importance of women’s rights or gay rights today. They may have done so fifty years ago, when they might have been genuinely controversial. But they’re so settled now that they’ve become boilerplate. If this is the sort of thing that irks you, then maybe Gunday is not for you. You would be better off watching something that’s more focused. But if you have ever spent a day taking in the news headlines with a critical eye for rather unexceptional human trafficking, spectacular train bombings, car bombings, murders and executions - or if you enjoy watching guns firing without any melodrama or melodrama-lite thrown in - then stop reading now and go watch both the end credits and the trailer where it says "For more info please visit" Gunday barfed up another trash fire. https://www.imdb. com/title/tt1161931/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 http://www.festival.com/films/gunday-movie-review https://web.archive.org/web/20110913070752/http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/24/gunday-review_n_1009104.html https://web.archive.org/web/20120806101512/http://www.papermagazine.com:80/?p=13894#ixzz1IzI2dDXx http://www.dirfilmutviklingen. dk/upload/pdf/tidsskrift/TID_2_2014_engelsk.pdf https://www.indiewire.com/article/gunday-review-nawazuddin-shah-rakit-malhotra-sanjay-leela-bahceli-newline?utm_source=outbrain&utm_medium=widget&utm_campaign=referral https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150579580976467&set=o.369438753995735&type=1 http://www.perthnow.com. cfa1e77820
